A cover submission for Desharnais et al., 2026: Diet-microbiome synergy underlies obesity-associated immunotherapy efficacy. The researchers found that obesogenic diets promote a gut microbiome that can restore response to cancer immunotherapy, specifically through helpful bacteria such as Lactobacillus johnsonii. I chose to depict a burger—symbolic of the Western diet—with the title sandwiched between a layer of antibodies and a layer of bacteria to visually tie together the themes of obesity, immunotherapy, and the gut microbiome.
